  • Bitcoin ETFs posted $240.08 million in outflows on Friday after ending a seven-day inflow streak on Thursday, with both fund types now on a three-week net inflow run

US-listed spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds recorded $70.62 million in net outflows on Friday, ending a five-day run of positive flows and closing the trading week in negative territory, according to SoSoValue data.

Weekly Picture Remains Positive

Despite the Friday reversal, Ethereum ETFs still managed to post $103.9 million in net inflows for the week ended Friday, extending their weekly inflow streak to three consecutive weeks. Over the previous five sessions from July 17 through Thursday, the funds had attracted $211.25 million in net inflows. For July as a whole, Ethereum ETFs have pulled in $337.74 million in net inflows to date.

Spot crypto ETF flows have become one of the most closely watched demand gauges for Bitcoin and Ether through traditional investment channels. While jurisdictions including Hong Kong have launched comparable products, US-listed ETFs dominate in assets under management and trading volumes.

Bitcoin ETFs Also Close Week With Outflows

Ethereum was not alone in reversing course. Bitcoin ETFs ended their own seven-day inflow streak on Thursday and followed that with a further $240.08 million in net outflows on Friday. Like their Ethereum counterparts, Bitcoin ETFs nonetheless extended their weekly inflow streak to three straight weeks, adding $103.90 million for the week and $233.96 million so far in July. The July rebound follows a record June in which $4.5 billion flowed out of the Bitcoin funds.

Bitcoin traded just under $64,000 at the time of reporting, pulling back from a weekly high of $66,892 reached on Tuesday, according to CoinGecko. Ether was trading at $1,837, retreating from its Wednesday weekly peak of $1,954.

Japan Bitcoin ETF Market Seen Reaching $18.4 Billion

In a separate development tied to the ETF landscape, crypto management platform XWIN published analysis at CryptoQuant estimating that a mature Japanese spot Bitcoin ETF market could reach approximately $18.4 billion. That figure equates to roughly 0.13 percent of Japan’s $14.6 trillion in household financial assets.

The estimate follows Japan’s recent overhaul of its crypto regulations, widely viewed as laying groundwork for future spot Bitcoin ETF approvals. XWIN said the projection assumes demand from existing crypto holders, new retail investors accessing funds through brokerage accounts, and institutional allocators.

The report pointed to the US market as a reference point, noting that spot Bitcoin ETFs excluding Grayscale’s GBTC have accumulated approximately 1 million Bitcoin, illustrating how regulated products can connect traditional finance with digital assets.

‘The key is access,’ XWIN stated, arguing that a Japanese spot Bitcoin ETF would allow investors to gain Bitcoin exposure through familiar brokerage and custody infrastructure. The platform described the $18.4 billion figure as ‘an achievable upper-end market scenario.’

⚖️ Our Verdict ⚖️ Watch and Wait

Friday's outflows ended a five-day Ethereum ETF inflow streak and marked a second down day for Bitcoin funds, hinting at short-term demand cooling as both tokens pulled back from midweek highs. But the weight of the evidence still leans positive. Both fund types extended their weekly inflow streaks to three straight weeks, July is firmly net-positive for each, and a single red session after a strong run is not yet a trend. A pause worth monitoring rather than a turn.
