Coinbase Eyes Canada for ‘Everything Exchange’ Combining Crypto, Stocks and Prediction Markets

Coinbase wants Canadians to think of it as their sole financial destination, not just a place to buy Bitcoin. Eric Richmond, CEO of Coinbase Canada, told BNN Bloomberg this week that the company is actively moving to bring its ‘Everything Exchange’ north of the border.

What the Everything Exchange Actually Means

The concept bundles crypto, stocks, ETFs (funds tracking baskets of assets such as the S&P 500), and prediction markets (platforms where users stake real money on outcomes of elections, sports events, and other real-world results) into a single app account. Richmond framed the ambition in direct terms: ‘I think chapter one of Coinbase in Canada was really about being a crypto exchange. But now phase two of that is the Everything Exchange. How do we create that one place for Canadians to have their entire financial experience in one app that is underpinned by this technology that makes things frictionless, seamless, and 24/7?’

No Launch Date, But Work Is Underway

Coinbase has not announced a hard launch date for the Canadian version. The company says it is coordinating closely with local regulators, a relationship it has been building since April 2024 when it became the first international crypto exchange to register in Canada.

In the United States, the buildout is already live. Coinbase opened stock and ETF trading to eligible American users in February 2026 and partnered with Kalshi, a federally regulated prediction market operator now valued at 22 billion dollars, to launch prediction markets in January 2026. The company’s current U.S. roadmap covers nearly 10,000 stocks and ETFs on a single platform.

Tokenized Stocks Coming to Non-U.S. Users This Month

According to a previous Coinbase official blog post, tokenized stocks, meaning shares in real companies recorded on a blockchain rather than a traditional brokerage system, settling instantly with no market-hours restrictions and carrying full dividend rights, are scheduled to reach non-U.S. customers, including Canadians, this month. Richmond described the rollout as a matter of access equity.

Competition and the Regulatory Runway

On the threat from Robinhood and established Canadian brokerages, Richmond was relaxed: ‘I think people are starting to realize the fact that banks close at 4 p.m., or the markets close at 4 p.m., or that wires can take days to settle, or that access for high-net-worth individuals to certain products are gated for just those high-net-worth individuals.’ His summary of the competitive dynamic: ‘Rising tide lifts all boats.’

One regulatory milestone still stands between Coinbase and a full Canadian rollout. The Bank of Canada is expected to finalize stablecoin implementing regulations in 2027, which Coinbase needs before it can list a Canadian dollar stablecoin and complete the Everything Exchange launch in the country.

⚖️ Our Verdict ⚖️ Watch and Wait

Coinbase has a credible multi-asset plan and a registered foothold in Canada, but there is no launch date and the full rollout waits on Bank of Canada stablecoin rules not expected until 2027.
