Tether Gold (XAUT) has been officially recognized as an Accepted Spot Commodity by Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), opening the door for regulated firms operating inside the international financial center to offer services tied to the tokenized gold asset, provided they hold the necessary regulatory permissions.
A Second Tether Product Gains ADGM Standing
The XAUT designation follows ADGM’s earlier acceptance of Tether’s USDt (USDT) as an Accepted Fiat Referenced Token, giving Tether a growing footprint of formally recognized products inside one of the Middle East’s largest international financial centers.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the recognition gives regulated firms a clearer path to offer XAUT-linked services. ADGM said on its end that the status would support business growth by widening the range of products and services available to companies licensed within the center.
TVL More Than Triples in One Year
On-chain data from DefiLlama shows Tether Gold’s total value locked has surged sharply over the past twelve months, climbing from roughly $826 million to approximately $2.86 billion, representing a more than threefold increase.
Expanding Use Cases Beyond Trading
Tether Gold is finding applications beyond straightforward trading and custody. In June, Bitcoin lending platform Ledn announced plans to accept XAUT as loan collateral later in 2026, allowing clients to borrow against tokenized gold positions without liquidating the underlying asset.
Tokenized Commodities: A Growing Corner of RWA
According to data from RWA.xyz, the broader tokenized commodities sector carries a distributed value of around $4.46 billion and makes up nearly 13% of the approximately $34.73 billion tokenized real-world asset market.
For Tether, the ADGM recognition adds regulatory standing in a fast-growing Gulf financial hub, though the status enables regulated firms to offer XAUT services rather than guaranteeing they will, and it applies only within the center’s jurisdiction.
