Morgan Stanley Investment Management has launched two new spot digital asset exchange-traded products, the Morgan Stanley Ethereum Trust (NYSE Arca: MSSE) and the Morgan Stanley Solana Trust (NYSE Arca: MSOL), extending its crypto product lineup well beyond Bitcoin.
What the Funds Offer
Both ETPs will track the spot price of their respective assets and carry an expense ratio of 0.14%. Each fund will stake a portion of its holdings, with any resulting staking rewards passed directly through to investors. The products were announced on Tuesday.
Ally Wallace, Global Head of ETFs for Morgan Stanley Investment Management, said in a statement: ‘Since introducing our first ETFs in 2023, we have built a diversified suite of ETFs and ETPs that now exceed $14 billion in assets under management. The addition of MSSE and MSOL reflects the natural evolution of our product suite, which seeks to provide simplified access to digital assets through the ETP wrapper.’
Building on a Year of Crypto Moves
The launch follows Morgan Stanley’s spot Bitcoin Trust, which debuted in April and had gathered more than $381 million in assets under management through July 16. The firm’s combined ETF and ETP platform has now grown to more than $14 billion across 22 products.
Also in April, Morgan Stanley executives outlined plans to explore tokenized money market funds and digital asset tax-management strategies through its Parametric subsidiary, alongside other blockchain-based products.
In July, the bank rolled out spot Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana trading for eligible E*TRADE customers through a partnership with Zero Hash, letting clients buy, sell, and hold digital assets alongside conventional investments.
The Longer Journey
Amy Oldenburg, head of digital-asset strategy at Morgan Stanley, said in April: ‘We are not going to stop at just Bitcoin. It is really about the longer-term journey, and there is quite a long way to go.’
The two new ETPs represent the most direct extension of that strategy to date, giving retail and institutional investors structured, staking-enabled exposure to Ethereum and Solana within a traditional brokerage wrapper.
