Grand Theft Auto VI is satirising meme coins, and the crypto market responded by acting the joke out.
Rockstar’s GTA VI launch trailer, released on Thursday, includes a brief shot of a plane carrying the words “DacityCoin AudaCity”, with a man setting off a neon pink flare on its wing.
Within an hour, a real Solana meme coin called Dacity Coin had jumped about 2,900%, from a market value of around $104,000 to $3.18 million, according to onchain data.
A copycat with no link to the game
The token was created on Pump.fun, a Solana meme coin launchpad, on 11 October, five days before the trailer. It had peaked at $1.14 million earlier in the week, fallen to around $144,700, then traded sideways until the trailer appeared.
There is no indication that Rockstar or its parent company Take-Two is connected to the token. Rockstar had not commented at the time of writing.
Who made money
Data from DEX Screener shows 24 traders made more than $10,000 each on the move. The most successful turned $1,912 into about $44,000.
At the time of writing, Dacity Coin’s market value had fallen to around $1.5 million, about 53% below its peak.
What the game is mocking
Leaked footage shows the game’s protagonist, Lucia, skydiving with an AudaCity parachute. According to the GTA fan wiki, the stunt is meant to advertise AudaCity and draw investment into Dacity Coin.
That reads as satire of the publicity stunts used to promote meme coins.
It has happened before
In February 2025, a real meme coin inspired by an item in Fortnite reached a market value of $4.78 million before crashing 96%. It spiked 2,700% again in April 2025, then fell 82% within days.
What happens next
Copycat tokens built on pop culture moments tend to rely on attention rather than any underlying product. More could follow as attention on GTA VI builds.
Dacity Coin is an unofficial token, and its price has swung sharply on attention to the trailer. Anyone trading tokens like this can lose their entire stake.
