  • The Global Money Platform is Mastercard's first major product since completing its roughly $1.8 billion BVNK acquisition in August

Mastercard has launched the Global Money Platform, a system that lets businesses hold fiat currency and stablecoins in the same account.

It is the first major product to come out of Mastercard’s roughly $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK, a stablecoin infrastructure company. Mastercard completed the deal in August.

What the platform does

The core product is what Mastercard calls a global money account. It holds fiat and stablecoin balances together, and conversion between the two runs through a single API.

Banks, fintechs and larger companies can build these accounts into their own branded products. They can also use the platform for their own treasury and settlement.

The platform is modular, so customers can adopt only the parts they need. Features include real-time conversion, stablecoin-linked cards and payouts to local bank accounts.

How far it reaches

Stablecoin balances can be spent across Mastercard’s merchant network, with card issuing available in more than 130 countries.

For payouts, the platform connects to Mastercard Move, the company’s money transfer network. Mastercard expects that to cover more than 40 currencies across more than 200 countries in 2027.

The first companies integrating the platform are Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Beem and Almond FinTech.

What Mastercard says

Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard’s executive vice president for blockchain and digital assets, said “the future of commerce will be built on interoperability across multiple forms of money.”

He described the launch as a step towards “the next generation of programmable and agentic commerce.”

Mastercard said support for tokenised deposits and agentic commerce, where software agents make payments on a user’s behalf, will be added later.

What is still missing

Mastercard had not named which stablecoins or blockchains the platform supports at the time of writing, and no transaction volumes were disclosed.

The full payout coverage is a 2027 target rather than a live figure. How quickly banks and fintechs build the accounts into real products will decide whether the platform matters at scale.

⚖️ Our Verdict 📈 Bullish Signal

A global card network has shipped a live product that puts stablecoins in the same account as fiat, with named partners already integrating. But no volumes, stablecoins or chains have been disclosed, and full payout reach is not due until 2027.
